A beautifully carved antique alabaster neoclassical bust of a woman — serene expression, classically draped shoulders — set on a clean geometric pedestal base. The warm white alabaster has the translucent quality that distinguishes it from plaster, and the carving is refined and confident. Almost certainly Italian, late 19th century, in the tradition of the Volterra and Florentine alabaster workshops that supplied decorative busts to homes across Europe and America.
